Asbestos: The Hidden Killer

For decades, asbestos was widely used in construction due to its strength, heat resistance, and affordability. However, what was once considered a “miracle material” is now known to be a silent and deadly threat. Asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer, claim thousands of lives each year—often decades after exposure.

Where is Asbestos Found?

Asbestos can still be found in many buildings built before the year 2000, hiding in:

✔️ Insulation (pipes, walls, attics)

✔️ Roofing materials and ceiling tiles

✔️ Flooring (vinyl tiles, adhesives)

✔️ Textured coatings (e.g., Artex ceilings)

✔️ Cement panels and garage roofs

When these materials are disturbed—during renovations, demolitions, or even minor repairs—dangerous asbestos fibres become airborne. Once inhaled, they can lodge in the lungs, leading to serious health conditions that often remain undiagnosed until it's too late.

Why Are Asbestos Surveys Essential?

Because asbestos is very difficult to identify with the untrained eye, the only way to confirm its presence is through an Asbestos Survey & Testing. These surveys are critical for:

✅ Identifying asbestos-containing materials (ACMs)

✅ Assessing their condition and risk level

✅ Ensuring compliance with health and safety laws

✅ Protecting workers, occupants, and the public

Whether you own, manage, or work in a building, an asbestos survey is your first line of defence. UK law requires duty holders to assess and manage asbestos risks in non-domestic properties built pre 2000.

Take Action Before It’s Too Late

If you suspect asbestos is present in your property, don’t take risks. Disturbing it without proper precautions can be deadly. Always consult professionals, conduct an asbestos survey, and follow the correct procedures for removal or management.

Stay safe. Get informed. Protect lives.
